Every Shopping Experience Ever

So recently I decided that I do not own enough clothes to stuff one over another into my wardrobe and slam the door shut so that it doesn’t explode. Also, I hadn’t begged for money from my parents for a while. Before they could start wondering if I was sick, I decided to go on a shopping spree. And who better to come help me spend money and not feel guilty than my shopaholic best friend. So off we went.

Location: Hill Road, Bandra (West)

Time: 4:00 PM

Total money we had: ₹2600

Things we had to buy: 2 pairs of jeans each.

4:00 PM: We get down from our auto. I am already beginning to sweat.

4:05 PM: We have found a shop that sells tops at ₹150 each. We descend upon it like a pack of vultures. Tossing aside one after another, we finally shortlist 8 tops that we HAVE to get. Why? Because they’re too cute to not. Also, at ₹150 each? We don’t even need to bargain.

4:10 PM: We have finally bought 4 tops. Spent ₹600 already. But they were too cute, how could we not.

4:20 PM: We’re still walking and now I’m melting. We find this store selling these really cute striped shirts with roses embroidered on them. My heart has now attached itself to a particular off-shoulder blue one. I ask the price. It’s ₹500. Great. Now I need to detach my heart and give them my kidney instead. It is tough, but I move on. It’s made a little easier by the fact that J has seen earrings she wants and is pulling me away.

4:30 PM: We have now purchased 2 really cute dangly earrings that have colorful tassels. We have also lost ₹50 each.

4:40 PM: We are now at a store that sells jeans. Finally. I’m looking at this pair of distressed pale blue mom jeans, when J calls me to the other end of the store. She’s standing there modelling in this pair of vintage round orange sunglasses. I join her and find blue aviator ones to match the jeans. We bargain, I mean J bargains while I provide moral support, and buy them for ₹100 each. And leave without the jeans.

5:00 PM: We have now found a store selling ruffled crop tops and J has lost her heart. We pick out over 12 cute crop tops and later whittle them down to four. Only to find out they sell at ₹250 each. J goes into pro-bargaining mode while I look up and find dark rain clouds gathering. Apparently, the shop keeper has a heart just as dark, because he doesn’t agree, and we move ahead, silently praying he’ll call us back.

5:15 PM: We have found a shop selling formal trousers at ₹250, and I have found a pair of grey ones that might actually fit me. Suddenly, strong winds start blowing, throwing leaves and dust into our faces. I wonder if this is a sign that maybe I should not buy more useless stuff. But then I find a cuter black pair and so I buy those instead.

5:20 PM: J has found a pair of boots that will help her survive this upcoming hurricane. Only, they cost ₹700. We discuss the practicality of a pair of black, shiny high-heeled boots that will hardly be worn, for the next 5 minutes, before succumbing to our inner shopaholics. The winds have now stopped throwing dead leaves in our faces, and have switched to throwing rain droplets instead. Yes, it is raining, we have no umbrellas, and we are still shopping. Go ahead, judge us. I already am.

5:30 PM: J has decided she cannot live without the crop tops and so we return, dejected and drenched. We give away some tears and ₹500 for two tops.

5:45 PM: We find this store selling colorful nail polishes and even though we haven’t applied one for over a month now, we buy 5. At ₹40 each.

6:00 PM: We are now drenched to the bone. Also, bankrupt. And hungry.

6:15 PM: Autowalas’ seem to know we have no money as it’s been 15 minutes and we’ve still not found one.

6:30 PM: We give up and start counting our purchases and expenditure to figure out how much guilt should we feel.

Location: Under the awning of some shop

Time: 6:30 PM

Total money spent:  ₹2550

Things we bought:

4 tops

2 pairs of earrings

2 pairs of sunglasses

1 pair of trousers

1 pair of boots

2 crop tops

5 nail polishes

Oops.

Let me know if you’ve ever gone out of control and bought stuff you’ve had to sneak into your wardrobe.

Until our next spree,

Love,

EllieB
